CEUs for Dietitians

This month, I’ve officially been a registered dietitian for TEN YEARS(!). If you’re a dietitian, you know that means I’m up for recertification and needed to submit 75 continuing education credits. It seems like these credits come easiliy some cycles and other cycles somehow seem to fly by. This cycle was the latter for me, and I found myself starting out the year seeking 45 credits!

Needless to say, over the past few months I’ve found quite a few opportunities to earn both free CEUs as well as paid opportunities that are worth a big chunk of credits.

Below are a few of my personal favorites, recommendations, and what I’ll be doing for the next recertification cycle.

What would you add to the list?

*Disclosure: some of The RD Link’s brand partners offer continuing education for dietitians. If listed below they have been labeled. They are a client of The RD Link but this blog post is not sponsored and contains only my own opinions.

*Free CEUs

My Go-To’s:

US Soy Newsletters – (RD Link partner)

I found these to be one of the easiest ways to earn quick credits. Rather than blocking off an hour for a webinar, you simply read an article and answer a few questions. Highly recommend!

NEEDED Expert Podcast – (RD Link partner)

This podcast is NEW and I’ve enjoyed each episode. The host and expert guests are highly knowledgeable. Plus, I love that it’s an on-the-go option. This is an amazing resource for anyone interested in women’s health.

IFIC Webinars

The topics IFIC covers always catch my eye. They are often on consumer insights and trending topics and are a great way to stay up on current trends.

Hero (RD Link Partner)

I’m a big fan of the work Hero does to support RDs. Their in-house RD often educates on the various types of fiber and addresses common trends and consumer questions.

Orgain (RD Link Partner)

Orgain has a vast library of CEU webinars. They cover a variety of topics and it’s likely you’ll find something that interests you and your expertise.

More Free CEUs:

I haven’t had the chance to check out all of the below but wanted to mention as the topics may be of interest to you.

Dietitian Connection

Pepsi Co Webinars

Sound Bites Podcast

Gut Health Webinars

Produce Webinars

Pork Webinars

*Paid CEUs

I started off the year blocking off time for webinars and free CEUs as time became more limited I found some great resources that offer a big batch of CEUs at once. I ultimately prefered this method because they went more in depth on specific topics and because I just had few weeks to earn credits, this worked well for me during this recertification cycle.

Book Based CEUs

I would highly recommend both Transform RD and Skelly Skills. Both include options to earn credit for books you likely already have.  How the Other Half Eats is a MUST READ for any dietitian and you can earn 20 CPEUs!

Lily Nichols’ Fertility & Pregnancy Books

These are on my list for the next cycle since they offer so many credits – you can earn over 45 for reading each book!

Dietitian Entrepreneur Symposium (affiliate link)

This is an incredible event for any entrepreneurial RD and it’s happening May 19-22nd just in time for the submission cycle.

The sessions cover everything from marketing strategies and financial foundations to book publishing and more. There’s a wide range of topics and it’s an affordable way to get up to 32 CEUs!

Ventures Newsletter – Nutrition Entrepreneurs

This is paid just through the annual DPG membership – free for NE members. Similar to the US Soy Newsletters above, you can easily read the printed or digital newsletter and earn credits.

Conferences

In past years, I’ve earned many credits through attending Today’s Dietitian and FNCE. Many dietitians have started attending just for the expo hall and events – but if you’re paying to go, don’t miss out on the opportunities to get CEUs!
