FNCE 2025: Should You Go as a Dietitian?

FNCE 2025, FNCE Conference

The Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) is one of the biggest events in the dietitian world. Every year, thousands of RDs and health professionals come together for four days of education, networking, and brand connections.

But if you’re on the fence about attending, you’re not alone.

Jenna here, the founder of The RD Link! Even as someone who has gone to FNCE multiple times, as both a dietitian and on behalf of brands, I’ve felt torn. Sometimes I’m excited to go and catch up with colleagues. Other times, I wonder if it’s worth the cost, the travel, and the whirlwind schedule.

With FNCE registration officially open, now is the time to start thinking about whether it makes sense for you this year. Below is an honest look at the pros and cons of going to FNCE, plus a few tips to help you make the most of it, whether you decide to attend or not.

Why FNCE Might Be Worth It

FNCE 2025, FNCE Conference

Many dietitians attend FNCE once or regularly and love it! There are many benefits to attending the conference.

Here are a few pros:

1. Networking & Unplanned Connections

This is hands down one of the biggest benefits. FNCE brings together colleagues, brand partners, and friends you may not see otherwise. Some of the best connections happen unexpectedly- in the expo hall, at a session, or in the hotel lobby.

2. The In-Person RD Community Energy

There’s something special about being in a space surrounded by thousands of other dietitians and health brands. It’s energizing and can leave you feeling inspired about your work.

Especially if you work from home, such as in telehealth, it’s great to get out there in person and connect with like-minded RDs. We don’t always do this enough!

3. This Year’s Location: Nashville

Many RDs are especially excited about FNCE this year because it’s in Nashville. It’s a city known for great food, music, and a fun atmosphere.

4. Continuing Education

You can earn up to 19 CEUs, which is a huge plus if you’re due for credits this year or simply want to get ahead.

5. Expo Hall Perks

FNCE is packed with free product samples and opportunities to connect directly with brands. It’s a chance to discover new products and chat face-to-face with company reps.

Bottom Line?

FNCE is often worth it if you:

  • Have the budget or employer support to attend
  • Need CEUs
  • Value in-person networking
  • Have a plan going in to avoid overwhelm and make connections

Why Some Dietitians Choose to Skip FNCE

While attending FNCE has pros, it also has cons.

1. Cost

When I recently asked other dietitians, cost was the top reason people skip FNCE. Some even said they’d rather spend that money on a vacation! Others get support from employers or DPG groups to help cover expenses, but for many, it’s hard to justify the price, especially if you don’t see a clear return on investment (ROI).

2. Time & Travel

FNCE means time away from family, clients, and your usual routine. For some, that’s a welcome break; for others, it’s stressful.

3. It Can Be Exhausting

FNCE is busy. You’ll juggle sessions, the expo hall, networking events, meet-ups, and more. It can be a non-stop few days, and it’s easy to leave feeling wiped out.

4. Limited Diversity In Sessions

Some attendees find that FNCE sessions can feel repetitive year to year or lack diversity in speakers and perspectives. If you’re looking for cutting-edge or niche content, it might not always be there.

Tips for FNCE Networking & Connecting with Brands

Networking at FNCE can open doors, but only if you go in with a plan. Here’s how to make it easier and more effective:

Connecting With Other RDs

  • Start with familiar faces.
    • Reach out to friends, colleagues, or social media connections before you go. Set up casual meet-ups or coffee chats.
  • Join smaller events.
    • DPG and MIG gatherings are great for lower-pressure networking.
  • Embrace hallway chats.
    • Some of the best connections happen between sessions or over coffee. Say hi- you never know where it’ll lead.
  • Have your intro ready.
    • Know how to quickly explain who you are, what you do, and who you serve.
  • Bring business cards (or a digital QR code).
    • It’s still the easiest way to swap contact info.
  • Follow up after FNCE.
    • Send a quick DM, email, or LinkedIn message: “It was great meeting you!” Simple follow-ups keep the connection going.

Connecting With Brands In the Expo Hall

  • Focus on relationship-building, not just samples.
    • If you’re interested in working with brands in the future, whether through partnerships, spokesperson work, or product education, ask about the company’s current programs for RDs.
  • Ask good questions.
    • Instead of just grabbing freebies, start a conversation. For example:

“Do you work with dietitians for media or brand partnerships?”, “Are you looking for RD ambassadors or educators?”

  • Be transparent about your goals.
    • If you’re looking to collaborate with brands, say so! Let them know how you might be able to help their brand connect with your audience or clients.
  • Exchange contact info.
    • Bring business cards or have a digital contact method ready (like a QR code with your LinkedIn or email). Follow up after the event to continue the conversation.

Pro Tips If You Decide to Go to FNCE Conference

If you’re leaning toward attending, here are a few strategies to make the experience smoother:

  • Set intentions before you go. Whether it’s networking, CEUs, or brand partnerships, having a goal can help you prioritize your time.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes. You’ll be doing a lot of steps!
  • Step out of the conference center for a real lunch. It’s a great way to take a break and experience the local food scene.
  • Give yourself permission to rest. You don’t need to be “on” all day, every day. Take breaks and explore the city when you need to.
  • Plan your expo strategy. Check out the exhibitor map before you go. You don’t need to visit every booth!
  • Visit the expo hall during off-hours. It’s less crowded and easier to have meaningful conversations.

Final Thoughts: Do You Need to Go to FNCE Every Year?

The short answer: No. FNCE can be an incredible experience, but it’s not something you have to do every single year to grow your career.

Whether you attend or not depends on your goals, your budget, and where you’re at right now.

If you decide to go, head in with a plan, and give yourself permission to make the experience work for you.

FNCE isn’t the only way to connect with food and health brands! The RD Link’s brand access platform makes it easier than ever to get in contact with your favorite food and health brands year round.
